Hungary may send troops to Lebanon

Hungary is ready to explore the possibility of participating in the United Nations' peacekeeping forces in Lebanon, the ambassador of the permanent Hungarian European Union mission in Brussels told a meeting of EU foreign ministers on Friday. Tibor Kiss later told MTI that a number of other countries had also acknowledged that they were still analyzing their participation options. The main purpose of the meeting was to determine the scope of the contribution to the 15,000-person UN force that the EU could manage. UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan attended the meeting to demonstrate that the UN was counting on substantial EU participation. (MTI)
