A country-wide general strike called by the LIGA association of unions for Friday is expected to cause some disruptions for travelers.
LIGA president and head of railway union VDSzSz István Gaskó said the strike, which workers are using to protest new austerity measures planned by the Bajnai government, will cause chaos for railway travel.
The unions of the Budapest Transportation Company (BKV) will not join the strike, and the company will accept passes of railway company MAV on some of its lines, BKV spokesman Károly Szilágyi told MTI on Thursday.
Some flights could be delayed at Ferihegy International Airport, said Budapest Airport communications director Mihály Hardy. Budapest Airport asks passengers to arrive earlier at the airport, he added.
The strike will not affect the operation of the postal company Magyar Posta, spokesman Tamás Tomecskó told MTI earlier. An airport union said it would hold a warning strike between 6 a.m. and 8 a.m. on Friday. (MTI-Econews)
