German authorities’ investigation on the worldwide tax evasion scandal in Lichtenstein also attracted the attention of Hungarian tax authority APEH, as the scrutiny revealed the possible involvement of eastern European countries in the affair.
The Check Republic is the first in the region to be mentioned in the case, according to the list given by a Lichtenstein bank official to the German intelligence agency (BND) with names of clients not meeting their tax obligations while hiding millions of euros at the largest bank of Lichtenstein – commonly considered a tax haven - LGT. APEH has contacted the German authorities in order to inquire whether they can have access to the list free of charge. The Hungarian watchdog is presently waiting for the response. (Gazdasági Rádió)
