Hungarocontrol to stay in state control

The Parliament's Economics Committee debated a proposal on retaining air traffic controller HungaroControl in state-ownership of at a meeting on Tuesday.

The committee also debated a proposal to convert HungaroControl into a limited share company. Although there is a need to convert HungaroControl into a company, there is no need to privatize it, said Socialist committee member György Podolák, and, this time, the opposition agreed. Economy Minister János Kóka appointed László Kiss the director of HungaroControl as of 10 October. István Mudra, the former director will be working as strategic deputy-director. One of the main targets Kiss has to meet is to conduct the conversion of HungaroControl. The 2006 budget targeted Ft 17.838 billion revenue from HungaroControl's operation, less than the actual figure of Ft 18.967 billion in 2005. HungaroControl's revenue comes from fees from aircraft owners, mainly for passing through Hungarian airspace. According to HungaroControl's figures, 372,591 aircraft entered Hungarian airspace in January-September, 7.7% more than in the same period last year. (Napi Gazdaság)
