Hungary’s governing socialist party (MSzP) is counting on both reigning Prime Minister Gordon Bajnai as well as his predecessor Ferenc Gyurcsány in its upcoming election campaign, the OrientPress news agency reported.
The conservative daily Magyar Nemzet claims knowledge that MSzP will name its candidate for premier at the 2010 elections in November. Earlier, the party said it would choose a lesser-known, young and energetic candidate, a position they appear to be backtracking from now.
The paper said the most likely nominee is current Agriculture Minister József Gráf.
Magyar Nemzet also said Gyurcsány will definitely be in the top 10 of the MSzP party list, meaning he will definitely surely be an MP in the next cycle and his name was also raised as a possible socialist candidate for Budapest mayor at the local elections in the autumn of next year.
