Gyurcsány pledges pro-reform government

Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsány, whom President László Sólyom has officially called on to form Hungary's next government, said he would like to lead a “government of reforms.”

Addressing the founding session of Parliament on Monday, Gyurcsány said the reforms would cover several fields of government, including public administration and public services. Referring to ethnic kin living in neighboring countries and elsewhere abroad, Gyurcsány pledged to perform his duties on behalf of the 10 million Hungarians in Hungary proper but in the interest of all 15 million living in and outside the country.
“I would like to act as an official answerable to, and controllable by, Parliament,” he said. Gyurcsány said he would submit the government program to Parliament in two weeks.
