Govt bins higher education draft

The government has scrapped discussion of the higher education concept from its agenda, national daily Magyar Nemzet reported on Thursday.

The latest version of the concept – to serve as a basis for Hungary’s new higher education act – was thrown out because some of its components were not properly justified, while others would require political decisions, the paper said referring to unnamed sources.

On Wednesday, the daily Népszabadság published parts of the concept, highlighting that the draft would seek to reduce the number of universities and cut the budget for higher education in general.
