Hungary's governing Fidesz party is aiming to collect 20% or 4 million recommendation slips from the public to support its candidates for the autumn municipal elections, deputy chairman Lajos Kósa said.
By Thursday, all 8 million eligible voters will have legally received a total of 22 million slips (separate slips are delivered to appoint a candidate for mayor, district representative, county rep etc.), which are a prerequisite for a candidate to enter.
The daily Népszabadság pointed out that if the Fidesz ambitions were to be realized, it would have been more support for the party’s candidates to enter the contest than ever before, while a tenth of the targeted total would suffice to enter a candidate in every single category and area. (BBJ)
