Ex-president Ferenc Mádl dies at 80

Former president of Hungary Ferenc Mádl died on Sunday at age 80, online news portal Origo reported. As a president between 2000-2005, Mádl was moderate, and there were only a very few laws he sent back to the Constitutional Court for reconsideration, Origo said.

Prior to his presidency, Mádl was minister without portfolio and later the minister for education in József Antall’s right-wing government in the early ’90s. Prime Minister Viktor Orbán offered condolences on Mádl’s death.
