EP backs Hungarian candidate for European Audit Office

The European Parliament on Thursday approved the appointment of ten new members, including Szabolcs Fazakas of Hungary, to the European Audit Office.

Fazakas was elected with 348 votes for, 213 against and 60 abstentions.

The European People's Party, the largest group in the European Parliament, opposed Fazakas's appointment. The move was initiated by Hungarian MEP Tamás Deutsch, of opposition Fidesz, who referred to the candidate's involvement in the communist secret service. (MTI)
