East Hungary on high flood alert

Melting snow and rains have led to high water levels, endangering 157 buildings in Szabolcs-Szatmar-Bereg County where the Tisza and Szamos rivers merge in east Hungary, said the county's disaster protection agency on Thursday. No one in the 29 settlements so far has had to move from their homes, however, thanks to successful efforts to protect them, said János Domokos. But high flood alerts remain throughout the area, he added.
