Leaders of several east European countries will hold talks in Kiev on Friday on the disruption of Russian gas supplies via Ukraine to Europe, the Slovak president’s office said.
Ivan Gasparovic’s office said the Slovak leader would meet Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko and also hold talks with the presidents of Lithuania and Poland, as well as leaders of other neighbors of the ex-Soviet state.
There was no immediate confirmation in Kiev of the meeting, which would be held on the eve of an energy “summit” proposed by Russia for Saturday in Moscow. Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko is due to meet her Russian opposite number, Vladimir Putin, on Saturday in the Russian capital.
The government in Moldova, Ukraine’s western neighbor, confirmed that Prime Minister Zinaida Greceanii was headed for Kiev for talks. (Reuters)
