Hungarian unions association LIGA on Monday said a general strike planned for Wednesday would be replaced by a demonstration because amendments to legislation, approved "surreptitiously and with lightning speed" in December, prohibit companies that provide public services from holding strikes.
Nevertheless, LIGA said, unions will not give up the fight to protect workers' rights and there will be some disruptions to travel. LIGA said it would block one lane on stretches of roads in counties around the country.
Railway engine drivers earlier announced a warning strike between 9 and 11 Wednesday morning. The strike was called to protest the planned elimination of early retirement.
