Centrope regional-cooperation summit to be held in Hungary on May 5

The European Union-funded Centrope organization will hold a summit meeting in the city of Győr (NW Hungary) on May 5, the summit's organizers informed MTI on Thursday.

The primary topic on the summit's agenda is the implications for the central European labor market of Austria's May 1 lifting of all remaining labor restrictions toward citizens from countries that joined the European Union in 2004, notably Hungary, Slovakia, the Czech Republic.

Senior city and regional officials part-taking at the meeting will also discuss cooperation in the areas of vocational training and joint projects intended to attract businesses to central Europe.

Centrope is a joint initiative, aimed at strengthening regional cooperation, of the federal province of Vienna, Lower Austria and Burgenland in eastern Austria, the South Moravian Region in the southern Czech Republic, the regions of Bratislava and Trnava in western Slovakia and Győr-Moson-Sopron County and Vas County in western Hungary as well as the capital cities of all eight districts.
