Budapest will host talks between European Union foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton and Chinese State Counselor Dai Bingguo today, stated Xinhuanet.com. The officials will address shared international and bilateral concerns, in which Ashton will plan to "...consolidate further the EU's increasingly important foreign and security policy relationship with China..." as stated in an EU press release cited by Xinhuanet.com.
'The EU-China Strategic Dialogue has enabled us to address in a systematic and real way, key global issues that are of importance for both the EU and China, Ashton said. "Already today our partnership goes beyond bilateral relations and our goal is to work together on issues of global interest and concern," she added
Talks in Budapest serve as a vital preface to the EU-China summit scheduled for later this year, as today's discussion will focus on events in North Africa and the Arab world, as well as “...global economy and climate change.”
