Hungarian border guards seized Ft 1.7 million worth of firecrackers in 30 cases over the past few weeks and the organization is stepping up control against smugglers, a spokesman told MTI on Wednesday. The possession and sale of firecrackers was made illegal by a government decision in November this year, but many people are violating the restrictions, Iván Kovács said. Those who possess firecrackers can be fined up to Ft 50,000 and those who sell them can expect fines up to Ft 100,000, he said.
