Hungary's Ministry of Agriculture will fire 6 % of staff by mid-February to save an annual Ft 4 billion ($18.7 million), Napi Gazdaság reported, citing Minister József Gráf. The ministry will fire 966 people by February 15, 2006, after
cutting 1,197 jobs this year, the newspaper reported. The job cuts will cost Ft 3.4 billion, which the ministry will pay for from central budget funds, Napi said. The reduction in the ministry's 16,000-employee workforce is part of government efforts to reduce the country's budget shortfall enough to meet euro adoption criteria by 2008.
