Hungary's Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development is planning to spend HUF 5 billion (€ 17.81 million)on measures aimed at alleviating the effects of this year's drought, agricultural ministry spokesman András Dékany told MTI on Tuesday.
The ministry is investigating the effects the drought has had in different areas of the Hungary, Dékány said.
Chairman of the Parliament's Agricultural Committee Sándor Font demanded that the government classify the counties most affected by the drought as disaster areas.
Dékány said damage resulting from the drought have to be over 30% for a farmer to be legible for damage claims. The deadline for registration in the damage-claim system was May 15. (MTI-ECONEWS)
