Investigations under way into disabled parking abuse

Budapest police have launched 393 investigations into suspected abuse of disabled parking using fake parking permits in the first half of this year, daily Magyar Nemzet reported, quoting figures from Budapest police headquarters.

Investigations into forging official documents were launched in 340 cases, abuse of official documents in 50 cases and for theft in three cases, the paper said.

A total of 214 of the investigations have been closed, nine of which resulted in court proceedings, and investigators have proposed raising charges in an additional 193 cases.

Office head of the National Federation of Disabled Associations, József Szakály, told the paper that GPs will not be authorized in the future to issue prescriptions for disabled parking permits, which will be within the authority of the National Rehabilitation and Social Office.
