Hungarians drink more top-shelf pálinka

Sales of quality palinka rose last year, Pálinka Guild Association head Gáborné Panyik said.

Sales of quality pálinka rose last year, Pálinka Guild Association head Gaborné Panyik said in Monday's issue of business daily Napi Gazdaság.

Sales of top-shelf palinka accounted for nearly all of the rise in overall palinka sales in 2010, Panyikné said.

Sales of pálinka, gauged in 50% alcohol by volume units, rose from 1.04 million litres to 1.08 million litres last year.

Contract distilling for households, at 8 million litres last year, accounts for most pálinka consumption in Hungary.
