A bill submitted to Parliament yesterday would give Hungarians with cars registered outside Hungary tax incentives in a drive to fight tax avoidance.
Many Hungarians register their expensive, high-powered cars in neighboring Slovakia, where vehicle taxes are lower. But the government recently said it would make stricter rules requiring Hungarians residing in the country to put Hungarian plates on their cars.
The bill would reduce the registration tax for all owners of expensive vehicles by gradually phasing out tax classifications for engines over 2,500 cm3.
