Economic crisis sand trap for Hungary's golf industry

The economic crisis has brought Hungary's developing gulf industry to a halt, business daily Napi Gazdaság said on Friday.

Swedish-owned Hungarian Golf Development has stopped construction of a 26-hole golf course near Csákberény (C Hungary) after completing 30% of the course, and a Hungarian-Irish investment group stopped building a 12-hole golf course in Bicske, near Budapest, after completing 60% of the course.

Spain's Sedesa Group did not even start construction of a planned golf course and resort near Lake Balaton.

Hungary has seven 18-hole, three 9-hole and three 6-hole golf courses at present.
