The Hungarian Hotel and Restaurant Association on Thursday welcomed the five-star Boscolo Budapest into its Hotelstars classification system.
So far, 320 hotels in Hungary have registered with the Hotelstars system and 159 have already been awarded their classification, said association chairman János Erdei. There are 784 hotels in Hungary that operate year round, he added.
Hotelstars was established by the hotels associations of Austria, the Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, the Netherlands, Sweden and Switzerland in December 2009. Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Luxembourg joined in 2011.
Hotel director Kinga Engelbrecht said about €100m had been spent on developments at the hotel since its purchase in 2001. The hotel inaugurated 73 new rooms at the beginning of the year, bringing the total number to 185, she added.
Among the rooms are 27 suites and two presidential suits.
The hotel has 17 event rooms with a combined area of 2,500sqm. The owners plant to open a 1,600sqm exhibition hall in the future.
The Boscolo Budapest's revenue is up 40pc so far this year over the same period a year earlier, Engelbrecht said.
