The average age of cars on Hungarian roads rose to 12.5 years in 2012, daily Népszabadság said on Tuesday, citing data from the Central Statistics Office (KSH). A year earlier, the average age was 12 years. The average age fell from 16 years in 1991 to 10.3 years in 2006, but has risen since. The average age is two years more than the European Union average and three years more than the average in Western Europe. There were 2,986,028 cars and 414,405 commercial vehicles on Hungarian roads last year, national registration data show.
