There is an increasing chance that the daily routine of Hungary’s Parliament will start with the collective singing of the national anthem in the future.
The related motion was submitted by Péter Kovács of the governing Fidesz party after which his caucus leader János Lázár said that it is “possible” that the majority House group will back the initiative.
“Singing our national prayer expresses that we will not forget Hungary, our beloved home, that we represent the Hungarian voters, regardless of their party affiliations. It also gives strength to perform the given day’s work and expresses our humility to our job and the people we represent. It helps bridge the lamentable divide between the country and the Parliament as our national anthem is one of the common things that are sacred to us all,” Kovács’s proposal reads. (BBJ)
