The expansion of the European Union, a strategy for areas along the River Danube, energy security and the situation of Europe's Roma will be among the key topics when Hungary takes the revolving European Union presidency in the first half of 2011, state secretary for bilateral relations at the Foreign Ministry Gergely Prohle told foreign press correspondents in Austria.
EU expansion will be a main topic during the presidency, especially with an eye to continuing the policy of stabilization in the Western Balkan region, Prohle said. Hungary will organize a summit for participants in the EU's Eastern Partnership program, too, he added.
An agreement on cross-regional cooperation within the Danube Strategy is expected to be reached during the period, he said. Emphasis will also be placed on energy security and the situation of Europe's Roma, he added. (MTI – Econews)
