Brussels approves Hungary's request to raise alcohol content of wine

Brussels has approved a request by Hungarian vintners allowing them to raise the alcohol content of wines and must by half a percent to compensate for low sugar content because of bad weather, the Hungarian Chamber of Agriculture said in a statement.

Hungary was one of ten EU member states that were allowed to take steps to improve the quality of their wine.

Hungary's Rural Development Ministry made the request, on the proposal of winemakers association HNT, in August, and the decision was taken on October 19. (MTI – Econews)
