Hungary's natural gas consumers may face another hefty price increase within months as universal service providers in the LNG sector are expected to ask the Hungarian Energy Office (MEH) to raise gas prices by up to 15%-20% in July, daily Népszabadság reported.
The broadsheet said distributors will ask for the price hike on account the forint's weakening against the US dollar in recent months.
The MEH has full authority to approve any energy prices changes in Hungary. In related news, daily Magyar Nemzet said household gas prices may increase about 10% in July, but the new government has begun talks with the gas distributors to lower their prices instead.
The paper said it sees gas prices stay level at best. (Népszabadság, Magyar Nemzet)
