Second nuclear power plant may become necessary

Hungary’s energy demand may require the establishment of a second nuclear power plant after Paks, ex-government commissioner Attila Aszódi said.

Hungary imports 80% of its gas consumption quantity each year and the country’s dependency on Russian crude oil is also a danger in the long run, Aszódi said. The construction of a 1,700 MW nuclear power plant may cost €3 billion and it may take six years to finish it. The venue could again be Paks, since residents are used to living next to a nuclear power plant. The technology and expertise are already present in the town. (Napi Gazdaság)
