Gas prices for Hungarian households, public institutions and small consumers will remain unchanged from January 1, state secretary at the Economy Ministry Csaba Molnár said.
Asked if gas prices would have risen 10% if a proposal by the Hungarian energy office (MEH) had been acted on, Molnár answered yes. In addition to the global price of gas and the HUF/USD exchange rate, the government also took social policy into consideration - the economic crisis was taken into view, he added.
The amount of gas price subsidies as well as eligibility requirements for the assistance will remain unchanged from January 1 as well, government spokesperson Bernadett Budai said.
