Paks nuclear power plant completes capacity expansion

The Paks nuclear power plant has completed boosting capacity at the last of its four blocks to give them each a nominal capacity of 500MW, communications director István Mittler told MTI.

Paks raised capacity of all four blocks by 8%, starting with the first in September 2006. The project has boosted the plant's total capacity by 120MW.

The project cost almost HUF 4.8 billion, an amount the plant expects to recoup in just three year.

The Paks plant meets about 40% of Hungary's demand for electricity. (MTI – Econews)
