The government considers Hungary's only nuclear power plant in Paks as one of strategic importance and will keep it in state hands in the long term, Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsány said on Tuesday, at a celebration marking the plant's 30th anniversary. "Since Paks is a strategic issue, it should not be subject to petty debates," Gyurcsány said. The prime minister said that adding further nuclear blocs to Paks' current four was not on the agenda. He added that once the question was raised, "the right thing will be to ask the people of Hungary in a referendum."
