Nabucco Gas Pipeline International is starting pre-qualification for vendors of long-lead items, such as line pipe, bends, coating and valves for a €3.5 billion tender, the company told MTI.
Pre-qualification questionnaires for the tender package must be submitted by May 17. After the pre-qualification, Nabucco Gas Pipeline International will call the tender.
Construction of the pipeline is to start at the end of 2011, the company said.
The route for the first stretch of the pipeline was recently finalized. The company is in the process of acquiring the necessary permits from state, environmental and building officials.
The planned pipeline will bring deliver gas from Central Asia to Europe, reducing the region's energy dependency on Russia. (MTI – Econews)
