An official at the Iranian government said that Tehran has reduced natural gas exports to Turkey to a minimum because of Turkmenistan’s halt of deliveries to Iran and cold weather, Khaleej Times reported.
Iranian officials said that Turkmenistan had stopped its gas sales to neighboring Iran, causing winter shortages in some parts of the country. They said that the major Central Asia producer blamed technical problems. Despite sitting on the world’s second largest gas reserves after Russia, Iran has been a small net importer since 2002. Analysts say that sanctions, politics and construction delays have slowed the OPEC member’s gas development. Turkmenistan normally supplies 5% of Iran’s gas consumption with 20-23 million cubic meters per day, the National Iranian Gas Company said. (menafn.com)
