In spite of prices rises in the past several week, vehicle fuel prices in Hungary are near the median for EU countries, with 95-octane petrol selling for about €1.25 per liter and diesel for €1.18 per liter.
Fresh EU data show retail vehicle fuel prices, without tax, in Hungary, are level with the average for the EU and the region, oil and gas company MOL's communications director for Hungary Andrea Pánczél told MTI.
Hungary's Competition Office (GVH) on Wednesday said it started a procedure against MOL on suspicion the company used its position as market leader to keep wholesale vehicle fuel prices artificially high since the start of 2006. GVH based its suspicion on market information. The procedure does not mean MOL broke the law, GVH noted. (MTI – Econews)
