The ministries of transport and the environment launched a HUF 150 million (€570,000) green campaign with the support of the European Union on Wednesday.
Deputy transport minister Lajos Oláh said an average Hungarian produces 500 kilos of waste each year. Some 74% of communal waste in Hungary ends in domestic landfills, as against 1% in Germany, he added.
The seven-stop roadshow started in Hajdúszoboszló in eastern Hungary.
The campaign will focus on educating young people and teaching them the basics of waste management. (MTI)
