Govt official meets with Areva VP for talks on Paks expansion

Hungary's deputy sate secretary for energy affairs Pál Kovács met on Tuesday with vice president of France's Areva, Jean-Hugues Perreard, to discuss the expansion of the Paks Nuclear Power Plant, the National Development Ministry told MTI on Wednesday.

Areva, which has built nuclear power plant blocks in France, Finland and China, is one of the potential suppliers for the project, the ministry said.

The ministry confirmed a tender for the expansion will be called at the beginning of 2012.

The Paks plant accounted for 42% of all electricity generated in Hungary last year.
