Electricity use peaks around 6,000MW as temps rise

Electricity use in Hungary peaked around 6,000MW on Monday as people battled the summer heat with air conditioners, but reserves are still enough to meet demand, transmission system operator Mavir told MTI around noon.

Mavir still has about 2,000MW of capacity, thanks in part to the high level of imports, Mavir CEO Gábor Tari said.

Demand this summer earlier peaked at 5,832MW, on June 10, when temperatures rose over 25 degrees Celsius. The all-time record for demand was 6,320MW, reached in 2007, when temperatures climbed over 40 degrees Celsius. (MTI – Econews)
