The government decided at a cabinet meeting on Wednesday to use the HUF 28.2 billion in revenue from the sale of its carbon credits allocation to start a programme to make buildings more energy efficient, Environment Minister Imre Szabó said on Thursday.
The program will be called the Green Investment System. Hungary has sold 8.6 million tonnes of its carbon emissions quota to Belgium and Spain since 2008. Experts say sales of the credit could generate revenue of HUF 270-350 billion for the country between 2008 and 2012. (MTI-Econews)
