The value of companies operating in Hungary that were subject to acquisition during the first half of 2011 was more than EUR 3.5 billion, up 193% yr/yr, business-law firm DLA Piper told MTI on Monday.
The number of mergers and acquisitions in Hungary, however, fell to 75 in the first half of 2011, down more than 30% yr/yr.
DLA Piper Country Manager Partner Andras Posztl expects the number to rise in yr/yr terms in the second half of 2011. Posztl added that he believes the government is likely to become active on Hungary's merger-and-acquisition market, thus increasing the number of such transactions. On the other hand, the European Union's Jeremie Program is likely to increase further the number of minor deals in Hungary.
