Unemployment rate 7.8% in December-February

The average number of unemployed was 326,500 in the three-month period between December 2005 and February 2006, resulting in an unemployment rate of 7.8%, the Central Statistics Office (KSH) said on Tuesday.

The unemployment rate rose from 7.5% in the previous three-month period and from 6.9% between December 2004 and February 2005. KSH calculates the jobless rate in line with ILO standards. Hungary's harmonized unemployment rate in January was 7.5%, under the respective EU average of 8.7% and the EU-15's rate of 7.8%.
