SzFH says 23,000 Hungarians have lost jobs of mass lay-offs

About 23,000 people lost their jobs in Hungary as a result of mass lay-offs between October 1, 2008 and March 20, 2009, Hungary’s Social and Employment Office (SzFH) informed the Parliament’s Employment and Labor Affairs Committee on Monday.

Senior SzFH official Irén Busch said 23,055 people have been reported as part of mass layoffs since last autumn, of which 3,270 were actually dismissed in the month of March. Ms Busch said only 2,664 of those laid off had sought new jobs by the end of February. (MTI-Econews)
