Size of Hungary wheat harvest seen level with last year, but of good quality

Hungary's wheat harvest is expected to be about the same size as last year, but the crop is likely to be of good quality, Hungarian farm association Magosz chief Istvan Jakab said at a press conference on Thursday.

Hungary's wheat harvest this year could be about level with the 3.76m-tonne harvest last year, based on per hectare yields of between 3.2 and 4.0 tons so far, Jakab said. Farmers are not likely to part with their crops right away because of depressed prices, rather they could wait until demand for milling wheat outweighs supply, as is expected, he added.
