Job-seekers' salary expectations started rising in the first quarter of 2011 after falling 5-10% in 2010, according to a survey by internet jobs portal Workania.hu.
Salary expectations averaged HUF 164,000 in the first quarter, up 2% from one year earlier. Analysts attributed this partly to a rise in job-seekers' self-confidence.
Men and women continue to have different pay expectations; with men expecting to earn an average HUF 181,000 compared to women's average salary expectations of HUF 138,000.
Surprisingly, Budapest is not at the top of the list, but Vas county (SW Hungary), where salary expectations averaged HUF 176,000, compared to HUF 174,000 in Veszprem and Pest counties, HUF 172,000 in Komárom-Esztergom, HUF 171,000 in Győr-Moson-Sopron and HUF 170,000 in Budapest.
At the bottom end of the list, job-seekers in Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg expect to earn an average of HUF 145,000, while those in Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén expect to earn an average HUF 138,000.
