Romania has asked to join a project that links the electricity markets of Hungary, Slovakia and the Czech Republic, Hungarian transmission system operator MAVIR told MTI on Tuesday.
The markets for next-day delivery of electricity products in Hungary, Slovakia and the Czech Republic are expected to be connected by July 1, 2012, said Hungarian Energy Office (MEH) director Gabor Szorenyi.
The project is part of an EU directive to establish the Internal Electricity Market (IEM) by 2014.
