Presence of foreign capital on the increase

Analysts are observing a new improvement in FDI. Irish and Chinese companies have already announced new investments in Hungary.

A leading Asian IT company is planning to create a local branch, and an Irish service center’s move to Debrecen will create 250 work places. Chemical ingredients manufacture Celanese Corp (Texas) is launching an investment in Budapest, and Lufthansa IT Systems is expanding its local branch. Total number of jobs created will probably reach 700 plus another 1000 to 1200 in the Chinese project.

Annual €4 billion ($5.4 billion) working capital (FDI) was forecasted to reach Hungary at the beginning of 2007, but the figure will probably be outperformed as $3.5 billion working capital has already moved in between January and April, according to a survey by OCO Consulting. Calculations are hindered by the fact that these data include constructions, while not all statistics do so. ITDH and the Dutch branch of Deloitte has recently published a report which recommended five potential rural centers for development: Debrecen, Kecskemét, Szeged, Pécs, and Székesfehérvár.
