Population decline slows in January

The number of births dropped slightly in January, while deaths and marriages decreased significantly, the Central Statistics Office (KSH) said on Monday.

Hungary’s population stood at 10.076 million. According to preliminary KSH data, 8,200 babies were born in January, a one percentage point decline year-on-year, 11,300 people died, down 3.5% from a year earlier and 1,200 married, 3.3% year-on-year decrease. The population decline slowed to 0.36% from 0.4% recorded in January 2005.
