Poland leaves key lending rates untouched

The National Bank of Poland (NBP) left key lending rates untouched Wednesday, in line with market expectations.

The benchmark rate remained at the record low of 4.00%, set by the central bank's independent Monetary Policy Council (RPP) last year. The Lombard rate - the rate at which the central bank grants emergency loans to commercial banks - stayed at 5.50%, according to a RPP statement issued Wednesday. Another rate used by the central bank for loans to commercial banks, the discount rate, remained at 4.25%, while the deposit rate remained at 2.50%, the statement said. Analysts believe a rate hike could come in April. (
