PM calls economy summit for Saturday

Hungary's Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsány has called a national summit for Saturday, October 18, where leaders of all parties in parliament, current and former political leaders and financial experts will work to reach a broad-scale agreement on the key economic and social agenda for 2009, including wages, budget and taxes.

Gyurcsány has asked that the summit come up with proposals on a date for Hungary to adopt the euro, on a mid-term wage agreement, on steps to take in the mid-term to serve the long-term stability of the pension system, on the renewal of the social system, on a concept for the long-term development of the country's education and training system, on the conditions for creating a more thrifty state, on the elements of local government reform, on a new party financing system and on measures against corruption.
