Plan to legalize pálinka distilling to reduce tax revenue by around HUF 8 bln

The government's plan to legalize private palinka distilling will reduce tax revenue by several billion forints, data from Hungary's Customs and Excise Tax Office (VPOP) reveal.

The Customs and Excise Tax Office collected over HUF 8 billion (€28.37 million) in a special distillation tax from designated contract distilleries in 2009, up from HUF 5.6 billion in 2008, VPOP reported.

The Fidesz-led government's 29-point economic action-plan presented to parliament on Tuesday called for the legalization of private distilling of pálinka, Hungary's eau de vie. (MTI-Econews)
